This is the first time someone has asked me a sensitive question on Writizzy: “Can I criticize a religion?” Basically, what is the moderation policy on the platform? This is far from a trivial question. How do you set limits? Do I have a duty to do so?

My response to this person was to say that freedom of expression, debate, and criticism, whether of religion or political ideologies, are accepted. Within the bounds of the law. Incitement to hatred or violence, ad hominem attacks, and the dehumanization of individuals or groups based on gender...

...religion, ethnicity, or identity in general, those, on the other hand, will be rejected. It’s a fine line. My personal convictions lead me to say that we should be able to talk about anything. But what that encompasses, everything, is highly subjective.

In reality, no matter how I answer, I can only be wrong. From one country to another, everything is open to criticism. With a few exceptions, and they are rare, there is no universal standard for what is acceptable and what is not. I can’t give a right answer, because there isn’t one.

Let’s take the cartoons that caused a stir a few years ago, for example. I can say that, personally, I think they fall within the scope of free speech. But I can also tell you that I don’t want to live under threat either ^^

In short, it’s a complex issue that ultimately leads us to the conclusion that a shared global agora remains somewhat of a pipe dream, and that moderation on platforms, which is often criticized, is actually much more difficult than some people think.
