File Explorer is the default file manager in Windows. Introduced in Windows 95 build 58s (1993), it was 1st known as (File) Cabinet or Chicago Explorer (after 95’s codename, Chicago). It was renamed Windows Explorer before 95’s release, & became File Explorer in Windows 8 (2012).

Windows 8 version is the one we all know and love (better than the 11 one)

windows 8.1 best

I wish they would separate explorer from dwm and all that because it creates so many issues

This is the ideal File Manager. You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like.

There's a new release of that File Manager in the MS Store!

Hahaha, there actually is! Modern release doesn't seem to be the multi window in a single window thing from the time. I was joking, because winfile was so unintuitive for me at the time that I used Norton Commander a lot. Right click menu in Windows Explorer changed a lot.
