Key lessons from Brazil Amplify our people. Ignore the opposition. Use the tools owned by fascists to defeat the fascists? Meet the people where they are. May need to reconsider my staunch position of boycotting Meta for the reason. Thoughts?

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

1) Don't respond directly to trolls by clicking the "reply" button on their posts. Instead, either find a decent post by someone else to boost (and if possible add a useful picture with a chart in it) or make your own. 2) Follow certain accounts that you know will get lots of views...

... & if possible have Facebook/Instagram/whatever set up to notify you when they post so you can get your comments in before the trolls do. The earlier you comment in a thread, the more likely you are to benefit from the algorithms.

75 public buses were prevented from leaving garages during part of election day in Brazil, according to a state electoral judge. The judge ordered the arrest of the city’s mobility secretary, Pablo Souza They even tried this as the elderly were literally going to the polls in their wheelchairs 👏

I left years ago because zuck does not respect our info and privacy, so I'm rooting for Meta's demise and posting here. But it still has the most reach in the US.

One has to absolutely meet the people where they are, but then once you have connected, help them move to a better place. The loss of people on those platform will be felt by those platforms, and the more people that move, will make it easier for other to do so.

Meta and Google auction off our eyeballs every few seconds (it’s probably milliseconds by now), so every user logged on is netting Zuckerberg more money, which allots him more power and influence. There really is no winning with these guys other than not to play.🤷‍♀️

aqui tivemos um misto de ignorar a extrema direita ao mesmo tempo em que enganamos exponencialmente as postagens de esquerda. Em determinado momento as postagens de esquerda furaram a bolha e chegaram a população geral

" At a certain point, left-wing posts pierced the bubble and reached the general population." 🙌🙌🙌🙌

The GOP has embraced "politics is war by other means", every liberal in America should act accordingly. We are in uncharted territory politically, fight back loudly and remain wary. Fetterman, Manchin, and others are cautionary tales

We also organized the community to synchronize topics and hashtags so we could point to the algorithms the trending topics. With that, we could expose to the undecided voters what was at stake, and show the rotten side of the fascist candidates. All of that without using bots or fake news.
