Why not a Constitutional Amendment establishing term limits for all federally elected and appointed positions? The Republican Party's decline into Trump fascism began in 1994 with its promise to pass an amendment establishing term limits for Congress. Gingrich to Trump, the destruction of the GOP

Grand idea, would be better if retroactive. But the hurdles are enormous. When the Democrats had majorities, they should have enacted a legislative reform not needing a constitutional amendment - expanding the court to appoint new justices in response to GOP/McConnell far right court packing

This is the only thing I ever agreed with that Trump wanted and that's term limits for Congress and the House. Do it for all of them and no more of this 55 years in the House and Congress for any party!

Now that they have the upper hand, I have doubts about term limits getting passed. It’s ridiculous they get to keep their seat for that long anyway. Times change and so should the ppl sitting in those seats. 8 years max imo.

That's way too damn long! 18 years?!? President is only 8 years total. Are we going to trust anyone as a justice that long? Ideally you'd hope knowledge makes anyone better but theres a tendency for too much complacency and rubber stamping at that point in anything like that.

It'll never get ratified. Too many GOP supermajorities. There was an interview with the Turtle a few years ago. Said while everyone was consumed with his machinations with judges, he was fulfilling his true goal-as many GOP states as possible. He wanted a new constitution too.

Should be no more than ten years. In my state, judges face a vote of confidence "... shall X be retained?" I think after four years, people should have a voice on rather to retain Supremes then one more term and out.

Totally agreed! We just refused to support an aging president, hence calling him incompetent to lead. But we support justices having unlimited tenures on the highest court in the nation. It is definitely time to overhaul the nation's highest court - long shot or not. Let's Try!

Remember, they swear in the new Congress on January 3, which means we will lose the majority in the Senate. Figure in the Christmas recess and it’s pretty darn impossible !

The Waco tragedy shows how anti-cult groups can manipulate law enforcement to harm both individuals and democratic values. To learn more about the Mount Carmel siege, its impact on history, and the people behind it, watch the documentary "The Impact"

Putin is Trump's mentor. Remember, Putin was elected President of Russia when it was an infant Democracy. Putin immediately began to dismantle & corrupt Russia's democratic & judicial institutions. The Putin autocracy of Russia is NOW what the Trump autocracy of America will soon be.

Nope! SCOTUS gave Immunity to office of the President. Trump was out of office when SCOTUS made this ruling. Biden is current president. SCOTUS only intended to advance Trump's future goal of Imperial Presidency BUT they gave it to the Presidency: Biden must use it to remove MAGA SCOTUS Justices.

Republicans won’t vote to overhaul the Supreme Court in any way. They were just recently able to finally have a corrupt republican majority on the Supreme Court to fulfill their extremist wishes. They’re not going to give that up without a fight.

They need to do that for themselves as well! According to Pew Research, 50% of US House members and 74% of Senate members were born before 1965. Analysis by Open Secrets found that in the 2024 election cycle, 98.5% of House incumbents won re-election, as did 90.9% of Senate incumbents.

It’s already started.Trump said over a year ago that he intends on eliminating term limits at all levels, so he & his chosen can stay in office as long as he wants. That’s part of developing an autocracy. Making his desired changes irreversible is important. Incredible our US citizens voted for this.

Some OTHER ideas for SCOTUS reform: * Expand the Court * Enable a strict, enforceable Code of Ethics * Age limits * Rotate in Justices from lower Courts on a fair, regular basis * Require detailed financial disclosures and tax returns * Limit the SCOPE of the Court > Elections have consequences!

- Code of ethics, tax disclosures is a must - Dunno abt age limits, but forced retirement when it's clear of any permanent decline imo - Judges rotating positions would be great (anti judge shop) - If you limit the scope of SC in some ways, what if the pres. or congress abuses power in those ways?

Sadly, some SCOTUS Justices are ruling according to their OWN PERSONAL BELIEFS, *not* the law or the people's interest because they know: * There is no higher Court to OVERRULE them * There is no enforceable ethics code to BIND them * They have LIFETIME appointments > SCOTUS reform NOW!!

the fact that there are 5-6 Catholics on the Court and they vote in favor of their beliefs... They should be bending over backwards to vote in the opposite direction to prove their objectivity, whether they PERSONALLY like it or not.

As much as I want it to go through, it would be hilarious, it would also be hilarious to see this fail just so Manchin can see how expendable he is. He loved being a blue conservative and I'd be funny if they ppl he tried to buddy up with drop him like a bad habit

Honestly, I'm against it. I don't think that we should have term limits for the supreme court. On the other hand, I do think that there should be something done. In particular, congress should have a little more courage and impeach the justices when they do shit.

I hope this passes. Term limits should be imposed on all members of Congress as well as the supreme court. Even so, you see congressmen and women moving between houses and the presidency so they’ll still hang around if they so desire but they’ll have to ‘work’ for it. No free rides 👍🏻

John Roberts should be impeached immediately as he has no control over this far-right court. He's allowing unethical behavior without consequences. He's a disgrace along with Thomas, Alito and Kavanaugh.

Sure! The corrupt fuckers in the House and the Senate and the White House have to keep singing for their supper and keep doing the bidding of their billionaire pay masters or they get fired and the PAC boys just put the next corrupt fucker in that spot. Judges should work harder for their pay.

Never happen. The only way this will happen is if the republicans want it. If democrats ever get control back maybe then and only if they are not on Control of court. This should have been case from beginning

It’s important to promote what you want, not just what you know you can get. Let conservatives vote against this, even as they promote distrust in government. Let their constituents see the inconsistencies and the hypocrisy.

Sadly, that will never happen because Congress also needs time limits. They won’t vote to kick themselves out. The ironic part is when congress was first established it was only meant to be a part-time job. They would come to meet & vote only a few times a year. They had regular jobs like 1)

farming, ranching, attorneys, etc. & they would still work those jobs. Being in Congress wasn’t their career & now it is. That’s why they won’t vote themselves out with time limits which would help corruption & being owned by capital donors which tends to happen the longer you’re in.

Looking at u McConnell & the Federalist Society as well as money, Mitch receives from pharmaceutical companies. It happens on both sides. Ironically Manchin is one. I think some fight it but when you’re in for 20+ years u start voting for your donors & not always the citizens u swore to represent.

This is a great solution, with one retirement in each congressional term. Because each elected president gets 2 appointments, it is much more in the hands of the voters. The nine-person court gets replaced every 18 years, and the limits are generous.

He’s from WVA. Literally his voters. Cmon…his job to represent their interests as they voted for him. He did his job when it mattered…knowing now he was going to get bullied out he shouldn’t given a bigger fuck you to MAGA but he still owes the people a voice. I disagree with those people, tho…

While they’re at it, they should propose an amendment barring anyone over the age of 72 from running for office. And a mandatory retirement for SCOTUS. RBG did us no favors by not stepping down.

If we are not going to use the intelligence we have gathered about Trump's compromised relationship with Putin right now to defend our nation, when are we going to use it? Never? Make Biden #DeclassifyTrump, so we can force the Congress to #ImpeachTrumpNow. www.dailykos.com/stories/2024...

dailykos.comWe Can Stop TrumpWelcome to the resistance. I have a proposal for you for action at the end of this essay, but it will make more sense to you if first we talk more about “kompromat.” You will note that the word sounds...

Unfortunately was still not possible! An amendment may be proposed by a two-thirds vote of both Houses of Congress, or, if two-thirds of the States request one, by a convention called for that purpose. The amendment must then be ratified by three-fourths of the State legislatures.

Joe Manchin's been a U.S. Senator for 14 years and he basically waits until the day he's about to drive his Maserati home and begin retirement to drop this constitutional amendment into his office Outgoing Mail slot and kill the lights on his way out the door. Thanks for everything, asshole.

I've only got enough strength to complain about the world I live in- I don't have the energy to spare needed to complain about a hypothetical reality. We lived in the world where Manchin was 1 of 50, so creeps like he and Sinema WERE the problem.

He was leaving whether Biden/Harris were reelected or not. He spent the last 6 years not having to worry about cultivating his Senate or Presidential ambitions. 6 years of not doing shit about the Supreme Court- pardon me if I don't Dead Poets Society slow-clap his lame legacy burnishing.
