since stepping back from my software gig and shifting to a consulting role a few years back, i feel like i've lost the ability to program almost completely. or at least learn new skills. i think of a cool project idea. download some boilerplate, open it up, and... then i don't want to do it anymore

Finding the motivation to recreationally program has grown significantly more difficult for me in the face of slop coding gaining mainstream momentum as well as the idea that open source code faces an existential crisis as it must question how it deals with slop coding.

In both cases, the agency of of the smallest humans get tossed aside for the billionaires' argument for "the good of humanity". On an unrelated note, who wants a drink?

hmm. it does take regularish practice to reinforce the skill... buut you seemed 2 describe a vanishing sense of motivation upon trying to start; and, that does not super seem like the same problem as lost programming skills? to me? cheerio-s, vivi

true, but the struggles of starting not feeling smooth and effortless like it used to is a large demotivator itself
