🌐 MCP support is now generally available in VS Code with GitHub policy support, offering full specification features and enabling you to extend agent mode with popular MCP servers.

🤖 Delegate the remainder of a local change to Copilot coding agent by invoking the #copilotCodingAgent tool in chat.

🛠️ Bootstrap custom instructions using the Chat: Generate Instructions command. The agent analyzes your codebase and prepares a copilot-instructions markdown file tailored to your project.

Design your own chat modes with dedicated tools and instructions, plus support for model selection, validation, and link import. Use the Configure Chat ⚙️ menu to manage modes, prompts, and toolsets.

Easily set the language model for each custom chat mode by adding a model property to your .chatmode.md file, with IntelliSense support.

Get completions, validation, and hover info for all supported metadata in chat modes, prompts, and instruction files.

✍️ Edit previous chat requests (experimental): click to revise and resubmit past prompts. Change the text, context, or mode, without starting from scratch.

⚙️ Auto-approve terminal commands (experimental): accelerate routine commands using allow/deny lists for trusted tasks such as ls, echo, or npm run test, while maintaining full security and control.

Agent mode now simplifies terminal workflows by detecting and removing redundant cd commands when you’re already in the correct directory.

Click and drag with middle click to smoothly scroll through your code in the editor.

You can now expand the Chat view to span the editor area. VS Code remembers this layout between sessions.
