Version 1.96 of VS Code is out now with overtype mode, terminal ligatures, debugging with Copilot, and more! Full release notes: code.visualstudio.com/updates/v1_96 Here are some of the highlights… 🧵

You can now use overtype mode to overwrite text in the editor instead of inserting it when typing. This mode can be toggled with the command “View: Toggle Overtype/Insert Mode”

We finalized an API that enables extensions to provide coverage on a per-test basis. When attributable coverage is available, you can select the filter button or use the “Test: Filter Coverage by Test” command.

You can now directly use the Move To context menu action on a view container to move it between the Primary Side Bar, Secondary Side Bar, or Panel area.

Ligatures are now supported in the terminal, regardless of whether GPU acceleration is being used. This feature can be turned on with the setting terminal.integrated.fontLigatures ⚙️

🔎 The Find control in the editor can now persist the search history across sessions and restores it across VS Code restarts.

For better visibility of matching results, we’re bringing back highlight mode to Find in Explorer. We’ve also introduced a new visual indicator on collapsed folders, showing if matches are hidden within them.

We’ve added experimental support for displaying blame information using editor decorations and a Status Bar item. Enable this using the git.blame.editorDecoration.enabled and git.blame.statusBarItem.enabled settings ⚙️

You can now control which extensions can be installed in VS Code using the extensions.allowed setting ⚙️ This allows you to specify allowed or blocked extensions by publisher, specific extensions, and versions.
