Feeling like a genius for looking up Dungeon Crawler Carl images so I can learn I will hate hate hate every moment of this and not waste any money checking it out lol oh so it's just Ready Player One but if Ernest Cline listened to less dadrock and played Portal and Borderlands gotcha

I'M SORRY HOW LONG ARE THESE??? AND THERE'S 8 OF THEM CURRENTLY??? surely you can kill *some* darlings, here...

I feel sick. 300 pages is already too long, imagine slogging through almost 900 pages of this

Like. 100 chapters??? This isn't Archive of Our Own, Bradley, you're not getting more views by making the work exponentially longer

It helps understand it if you know it was first webfiction published on Royal Road. So basically exactly getting more views by making your work longer.

all of them?? the later ones?? i thought it'd be picked up/published by book <4, but the laters ones have increasingly more chapters. i imagine they're not posted online now that they're published and selling irl copies for money?

I am not sure! I would have to check and see. I can see that kind of mindset really bleeding into the later works but mainly because I have seen that with other online fic authors. Doing a quick search it seems like he still posts first drafts of chapters to patrons, even after official publication

Sorry that previous post was a mess. I mean he posts chapters to his patreon as he writes it, and then it is officially published in book form after all the edits. You honestly see that a lot in online writing spheres but I didn’t expect him to keep a patreon going with how big DCC has gotten

This 1000% makes more sense now as to what happened with these books. It's a collected serialization disguised as a novel lol To be clear I don't actually have problems with the format of serialized fiction, but this is inevitably the resulting pitfall when publishing later for print
