I'd be very interested to know how you (seem to be?) building up layers from broad areas of colour to detailed features. How are you analysing an image and decomopossing it to define regions?

There are quite a few things going on. But as for the regions: color-based region growing. And merging smaller regions that are fully inside bigger regions into the bigger ones. And edge detection plays a big role for many features. Results get pretty good if I may say so ;-)
