On Friday, after two Palestinian gunmen opened fire on an Israeli military checkpoint in Hebron, killing two Israeli soldiers, Netanyahu stated that he would “prepare for a full lockdown across all of Judea and Samaria,” using the Israeli term to encompass the West Bank.

The Israeli military quickly locked down the city of Hebron — the largest city in the West Bank and its economic capital — and destroyed the neighborhood where the checkpoint was located. Bezalel Smotrich filmed himself in front of a building being demolished, saying he ordered the destruction.
