Personally I think WebComponents could really be such a huge leap forward for AI. A single layer versus having to understand how code aggregates to the broader HTML. Especially with invokers / commands: now we have some standards with which we can wire the web declaratively!

I don't think web components are a good enough abstraction. If you're leveraging AI, you definitely want to be working with a higher abstraction so that it can make your application portable. The DOM should be purely seen as one of many render targets IMO.

A crafty custom element (CE) lib could be portable. CE libs that have SSR have a different output on the server (strings instead of DOM, using a lightweight DOM phonyfill, or no fill at all). This can be made to output to native components instead, if desired. Just the same a Svelte, Vue, or Solid.

There's custom elements, and there is the web component specs. I'm conflating them as they typically need to, to get a deserved output. Also what are native components? What Svelte, Vue and Solid do is not the same as generating native Swift code from your abstraction.

Well I mean React has done that with React Native and its many other renderer targets. I mean, it's arguably still the major draw to React today. I'm not saying React is the best choice to use, but that is a killer feature – and I speak from seeing it implemented in practice at scale.
