I once found a bunch of hermit crabs in one place. "WTF is going on, here?" The big one found a massive empty shell, the medium one took the big one's shell, the small one took the medium, etc. Convertibles! :)

@jopabinia.bsky.social et al... The utility of this is clear, but how do they all know to congregate in one spot? Visual, chemical, sonic communication? Or is it rare, and only happens if there's a bunch of them in on place? What are you thoughts/therories?
