Okay y’all, it’s time… ads are coming to the Game Dev Feed. See the quoted thread for the original community discussion on the topic. Now let’s talk about what it’s gonna look like, and what options you have to get out of it. 🧵

Hey #GameDev, what are everybody's thoughts on ads in the game dev feed? I'm looking for ways to support my work, so lemme explain about what this would look like. 🧵

First, I’m sticking to my original promises. Any ads I allow into the feed will be either… 1) Targeted and directly relevant to game devs; OR 2) Broadly relevant and for a good cause, e.g. charity. Ads will also be identifiable. They'll have #ad, #sponsored, or #promotion in the skeet.

The other promise is that I’ll never allow ads to overrun the feed. At the absolute maximum, ads will saturate 5% of the feed (~1 ad in 20 skeets). More often, I’ll keep it closer to 1% (1 ad in 100 skeets).

You may have seen some ads running in the feed already. Those skeets from @graze.social talking about this feed being run on Graze? Ads. FWIW, building feeds with Graze is great, and feeds are the heart of Bluesky. Seems relevant to me. 😉

The most imminent campaign is from @unicefusa.org. UNICEF is such a worthy cause, and they’re trying to grow awareness of their presence on Bluesky thru a partnership with feed creators on Graze. I’m excited to be able to support them. ❤️

Beyond those, I’m talking to other companies (many of which you know) about promoting some of their skeets. These are ads for things like game dev tools, game distribution platforms, multiplayer networking backends, and other things that are directly relevant to game devs.
