AWS just shipped native OpenTelemetry metrics support in CloudWatch. This one got buried under the S3 Files announcement, but it deserves more attention!

Until now, if you wanted your OTEL metrics in CloudWatch, you needed custom conversion logic or an _extra agent_ in between. Now you send directly via OTLP and CloudWatch ingests it natively! 🎉 What actually changed: 1. Native OTLP ingestion

No more middleware to translate your OTel metrics. Send directly from your instrumented services, done. 2. Query AWS and app metrics together Your custom OTel metrics now sit next to metrics from 70+ AWS services. Query all of it with PromQL in one place. 3. Query Studio

A new console tool for writing PromQL (!), building dashboards, and creating alarms. No context switching between tools. Currently in public preview (free!!!) across N. Virginia & Oregon 🇺🇸, Sydney 🇦🇺, Singapore 🇸🇬, and Ireland 🇮🇪

Observability is still the most underinvested area in most teams I talk to! OTEL is the right standard to bet on, and having it land natively in CloudWatch removes the last excuse to not instrument properly 😎
