Tbf, something that changes too often in the queryKey might cause the same problem? (Mind you it probably wasn't JSON serialiseable anyway)

referential stability is the big "gotcha" with useEffect, and the query key serialization tries to take that away for 99% of use-cases.

Yeah. I also think just using useQuery means your thought about these problem a bit more deeply so your way less likely to break it in this way as well.
