Debating on how to get an ethernet cable through a 40-50cm stone wall. If I buy a long enough drill bit will I ever find a mortar path through? How much of a mess am I going to make? I've been putting this off for weeks....

Do you have an SDS+ rotary hammer drill? a 500mm drill bit on one of those perhaps; Not sure where you're based, but you might be able to hire one for the day. Perhaps you could go up and over the wall via the roof/attic space? 🤔

Have a non-SDS hammer drill. But thanks, definitely going to try over the top first. The ceiling wood doesn't line up with the wall so guessing it's sat on top of it!

The ceiling is thick wooden slats. Test hole through suggests thick wood fibre board on top of that then tiles. 1940s house but roof is recent. Ended up going through the wall at the top just below the ceiling boards as it was mostly mortar there. 600mm drill bit was just enough!
