Meet Remus, the first dire wolf to exist in over 10,000 years. Here's what that means for other extinct species: time.com/7274542/colo...

While I think this is amazing, it 's also questionably ethical. What role do these revived species serve? Are they here for our research and amusement, like the last Tasmanian tiger? What other species are next? Wooly mammoths? What about dinosaurs? What about Neanderthals? Should we do it?

I don't think anybody understands the ramifications of this kind of work. Bringing back extinct species is a great way to generate money and buzz for technology that can be used to rescue the ones that are already endangered. It speaks to the larger ability of science to directly edit a genome.

It's not bringing back extinct species. They just modified a few genes of a grey wolf. That's not bringing back a dire wolf. Even one of the geneticists leaved the company when they published this travesti.
