Periodic reminder that Chrome is bad software. It's a personal data collector cosplaying as a web browser. Use other browsers, my personal recommendations are Safari (if you're on a Mac) and Vivaldi (works anywhere). Orion is worth a look too (no Windows version yet).

No. Like many other projects and software it uses Chromium (which is an open source project largely made by Google), which is the underlying rendering engine; itself based on other projects (e.g. Apple’s WebKit which was based on earlier open source projects).

I found this to be the case, and I've already downloaded and swapped. I posed the question before doing the research, and that error is on me! I have been using Brave, and the association with Thiel was enough to prompt my departure.

Btw if you want a browser largely free of Google code, you might want to look into Firefox. (I personally don't like it because they're trying to push useless AI features constantly.)

As long as Google doesn't profit off of the use of the code, which open source actually dictates, I'm happy. I appreciate Vivaldi because they do not use AI.

You’re mischaracterizing open source. Most open source projects use permissive licenses that include the right of users to use commercially (including selling) software based on it without sharing their code.
