Ironic humor, as it was the smooth scrolling code John Carmack tested on our machines when we both worked at Softdisk Publishing that made Doom possible.

Before that. It was just test software where the POV moved through a wire frame maze. Actually MS got hold of the code and made it into the default screensaver for NT4. I ran into Jay Wilber years later and he confirmed but shrugged it off, saying "there's a limo waiting for me when we land."
