2-3 of those are the same incident (at least localhost and IIS, probably also AD) but yea, what a joke tbh

Since 2023 my secondary SSD has bricked because of windows. My second one, that I bought exclusively to replace the first, is starting to falter as well. I blame Windows.

I’m seriously considering switching to Linux. I’ve got an expensive PC that can’t run Win 11. Win 10 has been perfect for all my needs and now is dead with only a 1yr security extension offered. It’s been like this since Win 3.11, good versions and bad, but never ‘just dump your hardware’.

You can increase that security update extension to 3 years. Obviously not a perfect solution but might give you more time before you gotta make the Linux switch bsky.app/profile/sock...

Windows 10 End of Life is in less than 2 weeks! But you don't have to upgrade to Windows 11!! This video will show you how to extend the life of Windows 10 by 3 more years via Extended Security Updates program safely, for free. MS throws you to the wolves, but the wolves will throw you a bone.

Thanks, that’s an excellent solution. Microsoft made the one year security updates free in Europe, after legal threats and without having to ‘backup’ personal stuff to the cloud. And this option is a way to get the three year student, commercial program.

It's alright, but unless you do very little with your machine, you will be trading frustrations from the core OS being rotten to frustrations from the apps being inappropriate or outright awful for your use case. source: am linux user (on/off since 2010s, maining it since 2023)

Linux is pretty great, I recommend Fedora KDE. It's really nice to boot into your computer and it's just ... nothing. No notifications, no pop-ups, an idle computer ready to accept your command. Linux gives your full ownership of your computer.

The Registry! a total nightmare and only slightly better than the hundreds (thousands?) of .ini files that Win 95 started replacing. I would switch to Mint immediately (I run it in VMWARE) if all my main programs like Ableton Live and other music software had a Linux version. But we will see!

I mean your expensive PC can certainly run windows 11 with a couple tweaks that a usb boot drive installer software like rufus can handle for you - bypasses the checks that stop win11 from installing. that being said linux mint rules! i jumped over about a year ago. no regrets.
