It's because of the way they implement the replaceable battery and back panel. A Qi charging coil physically won't fit without blocking the battery removal and they don't wanna attach it to the back panel and have a sensitive dangly wire still connected to the body when you take it off.

and it's not like phones like the lumia 950 solved this 10 years ago elegantly, having the back removable, the battery swappable, and qi, and no dangling wires at all. none of this is new. none of it isn't already solved. a few pogopins where all it needed (2 for nfc, 2 for qi, i think?)
