It was not like this when I joined the AF. We ate for free at the chow hall and it was not deducted from our pay. My first base was FE Warren in WY (redlined from Hickam 😞) and while the base had a lot of amenities being stuck in the middle of nowhere, food places were few. This is wrong.

I remember when I was in the service almost 20 years ago, nearly every day brought hard physical work. The kind of work that burns tons of calories. I don't see how you can expect the work to continue if they aren't even being fed. Eventually, the troops won't even be able to function.

Yup! For soldiers living in the barracks, meals in the chow hall are pre-paid. They don‘t have the option of getting the money paid out instead. And for many enlisted soldiers, barracks is the only option for living arrangements…

So soldiers have to go AWOL just to feed themselves??
