My granddaughter is being cared for by a nurse who just had a baby. She was denied any sort of maternity care. It is a moral crime to force a new parent to suddenly figure out being a parent, childcare for a newborn (not really available in the US), and to ignore all the health care they need.

Canada is a FIFA host country too (so is Mexico). In Canada, we have parental leave for up to 40 weeks. That time can be taken by both parents, but they split that time between themselves. Canada recognizes the value in both parents needing time to bond with their newborn child.
