I’ve always wondered: in this day and age of worldwide digital publishing, why do these sorts of roles have specific location requirements? It’s a career I once looked into, but I wasn’t willing to relocate to the typical publishing hubs

There are many benefits of in-person interactions; hence we have a small-ish number of editorial hubs where colleagues can meet. It provides a richer, less-isolated experience and is better for career development opportunities IMHO.
