Eventually, there will be nothing left for them to hollow out so the industry will basically restart as offshoots of smaller devs. Or at least that is what is supposed to happen. It's not like game devs are going to do a general strike in spite it being necessary.

All of this. I've been in the gig long enough to remember when the games industry was hungry to be as big as TV and film. Well, now we are, and -- who'd've thought it? -- the big studios and publishers are owned and run by exactly the same ghastly stenches who've ruined TV and film. Yay us.
