It is widely held in progressive circles in the US, and across parts of the West more broadly, that the midterm elections will bring some relief to embattled American liberals by reviving Democratic dominance in Congress. 1/4

That may well happen – and I'd welcome it – but I am far more pessimistic about the central challenge facing our world today: the techno-oligarchy. 2/4

And while I have zero – negative, in fact – sympathy for all things MAGA, I fear that the techno-oligarchic capture of the American state will be strengthened rather than weakened with Congress under Democratic control. 3/4
