Clay Shirky documented it exhaustively in Here Comes Everybody. Every meme, fanfic, and parody account operates on exactly this logic ffs.

AI is the logical endpoint of participatory culture, not its betrayal. That's not theft, that's the internet doing what it does. Their real worry is that the barrier to visual creativity dropped to zero. Which is what they said about desktop publishing, digital photos and Auto-Tune. Wrong then too.
