If you were computing in the 1980s then these books were a must! Still have my originals from back in the 80's when I started with a #ZXSpectrum. I'm still developing for 8-bits. Hardware / software / magazine for the #SAMCoupe (www.samcoupe.com) plus some Speccy hardware too (zx.samcoupe.com)

Tonight's book is chosen! Join me 8pm GMT on twitch for a #ZXSpectrum type in.

#ZXSpectrum BASIC was a great starting point, had so much fun tinkering with that when I got my #ZXSpectrum 48K in May 1983. I always had a fear that machine code would be impossibly hard to learn so during my Speccy days I only tinkered with BASIC, Ocean's LaserBASIC to add sprites and other...

features, plus a few game maker utilities like 3D Game Maker and PAW. Even moving over to the #SAMCoupe in 1993 I stuck with BASIC and GamesMaster for a year, before finally buying an assembler when at a show in April'94 when it was half priced. Having taken the plunge I learnt #Z80 assembly...

very quickly! Started with scrollers using ROM routines for printing characters and scrolling an area of the screen, then without any ROM dependancy. After that I wrote a machine code game in a week which turned out to be a very quick to learn assembly and the host system in great detail.
