Temp assets should be as obvious as error'd assets

Placeholder assets in a game should look obnoxiously temporary, so obvious that no one would mistake it for the final asset. In past games we've used the doge dog (rip) as an icon, hot pink versions of characters, our CEO's head, etc. If you use a temp asset that seems passable, it may stay there.

Definitely! When technically feasible (i.e., when there are no references to an asset by name), I also suffix asset names with _PROTO or _TEMP so they stand out in asset usage reports and content browsers. And prototype scaffolds go in dedicated folders with uppercase, obvious names.

Not as obviously wrong, of course. Keep the red glow and neon pink for identifying the actual issues. But temp art has to stick out just as much, so you cannot accidentally miss it.
