or heck abortion, the Republican position there (ban it in every circumstance and charge women who get ectopic pregnancies with murder) is like 80 points underwater. but they got Roe v Wade overturned and then won the presidency

now this is at least half the HUGE right-wing bias in all levels of traditional media and social media, Republicans have an unparalleled ability to distract voters. but the other half is Democrats are, by and large, wimps

It is like democrats think they [Rs] won because of these arguments instead of realizing Ds get blamed for the chaos and inability to get things done when they are in charge bc of Rs & they don't have the votes (thank Manchin and Sinema). They drop these topics thinking they are losing issues.

It's also worth noting that Dem leaders were reluctant to come out with full-throated support of abortion rights before those rights got taken away. Polling was mixed, and Dem leaders let polling dictate their decisions, never mind that polling changes.
