AI probably has some uses for retail. A much more realistic potential magic bullet here as I discovered when reporting on Finland’s massive grocery coop (50% market share) was no need for profit prospect.org/2023/10/11/2...

This will make some folks mad :). The best way for these grocery stores to work is if they use AI to get an edge over private grocery stores. AI is the one way for the state government to out perform private enterprises.

The key to efficiency and or profitability in retail grocery sales is inventory management. You want faster turns without ever being out of stock completely. Using AI tools to manage inventory and ordering could certainly provide an advantage...

all else aside, if we grant for the sake of argument that AI is real good for food retail, there is nothing stopping the private sector from picking it up too. obviously

Yeah. If the private sector isn’t/will not be using AI that would stand to reason they don’t view it as good for business and therefore it would be a mistake by the public sector to adopt it. There’s no way the argument makes sense in any direction..

Coops in general have FAR more promise in addressing affordability than AI EVER will. But try telling that to Cuban and others who have been brainwashed to assume market solutions over EVERYTHING else.
