it really does warm my heart every time we North Americans act like real neighbors to each other. seeing Mexico and Canada rush in to help California is beautiful. speaks to the best in us. don't forget that in the days to come.

you’d probably start with just Canada, but Mexico wouldn’t be that much of a stretch from there, have a ton of handy economic benefits too

The thing is, if the U.S. constitution were a good governing document, continued voluntary accession of the rest of North America — Haiti, Cuba, and so on — would actually be a reasonable public policy goal that a sane political party could support

I feel like negotiation of Canadian accession would be a point where you could make substantial reforms to the US Constitution as a part of the agreement. Suddenly the US has a big concrete thing to gain by adopting reforms to make it palatable to Canadian citizens used to a parliament.
