Financial disclosure is transparency after the fact, not a firewall. It tells the public what happened, but not whether the award process was insulated from the president’s financial interest.

How normal that sentence has become?! One president sold his peanut farm for fear of being seen as ethically improper. Another openly revels in blatant impropriety and no one cares
