#HicksLaw (one of the most important pillars of UX) says the time it takes someone to decide grows logarithmically with every added option. Users bombarded with choices have to take time to interpret and decide, giving them work they don’t want. lawsofux.com/hicks-law/

Good design hides the plumbing. Reducing choice isn't dumbing things down, it's respecting people's time. Increasing login buttons doesn't 10x the freedom. People will churn. Most users don't want to understand ATProto. They want to sign in and talk to their mates.

Hick's Law is existential for any network trying to scale. Every extra log-in button costs users. We have to stop thinking like engineers and build for people who will never care as much as we do. We have to reduce the complexity.

If the #ATproto ecosystem wants general public billion scale audiences, it needs one door in.
