I guess the button idea is great, but also a way to sign up directly with email while also informing on what's happening under the hood (e.g. sign up with a default pds of choice, if user doesn't choose one) would remove a lot of friction.

Sign in/up with email is the very next field you see *after* clicking the button, just like "Sign in with Google" et al.
