My girlfriend plays a game that blocks you from naming characters inappropriately, but for some reason it blocks a ton of normal names like "Valerie" or "Fiona" or "Hailey" or "Squidward" or "Sean" so she asked me to look at the game's code to find out why… 🧵

This was a very fascinating read! It makes me wonder if this was just a bandage for parsing specific words.

Definitely an attempt to! Completely broken and only accidentally kinda achieves its goal, but an attempt nonetheless. I assume it was a communication issue between the devs & localizers, although I'm not sure why localizers would try to use RegEx, or how a dev wouldn't notice it wasn't supported?
