Revlimid has its origin in a pill that cost patients $7.50 each. Decades later, the cancer drug costs more than $18,000 for a month’s supply — even though it still only costs about 25 cents to manufacture. (Published May 2025)

propublica.orgThe Price of Remission: This Cancer Drug Saves Lives — but Costs a Fortune. I Wanted to Know Why.When I was diagnosed with cancer, I set out to understand why a single pill of Revlimid cost the same as a new iPhone. I’ve covered high drug prices as a reporter for years. What I discovered shocked ...

I wonder if it would make sense to go to another country for treatment if you needed it, if you could get a visa and find a low cost place to stay. It would still be expensive, but maybe less so.

In India, the generic costs $18 for 10 X 25mg pills. People go to India for Hep C pills at a cost of $65 a month vs. $26,000 in the USA and have done so for years. Note to anyone considering this. This drug is an analog of thalidomide and requires **exceptional care** in avoiding pregnancy.

Just to reiterate Thalidomide is almost guaranteed to kill or harm a fetus. In the USA patients must abstain or use 2 forms of contraception. Males taking this can affect females and a fetus through their sperm. DO NOT SELF MEDICATE.

The oligarchy has a gun to the heads of everyone in this country. VCs are buying up everything in every industry, raising prices and decreasing quality. They are squeezing every last dollar of the bottom 90% to enrich themselves, yes. But they actually want to control and enslave or kill all of us.

Perfect example why billionaires are never going be our friend. Freaked out over a 1% decline in revenues for 1 lousy quarter even though it still left them with 989 million in sales. It’s never ever enough for these people.

🇨🇦 I’m horrified. Sorry I read it This cost for this Rx, for cancer, is so out of reach for most patients Just like the billionaires that forget about the consumers, the pharmaceutical companies forget the dying patients and just hope enough richer ones can afford their Rx

Either they charge patients an appropriate fee based off the cost to produce or nationalize the fucking company or take away their ability to sell in the USA. This is bullshit. We are talking about people’s lives!

Insurance is what makes this possible. If they were charging patients directly for this drug, the company would have gone bankrupt a long time ago because nobody would be able to afford $18k for a month of drugs.

I have to take a very expensive medication, too. Its $11k for 30 pills. Its a neuroscience drug for rare brain condition, but still it shouldnt be that much . making it almost impossible for poor people to get approved for it. Medicaid didnt wanna pay it, but dr made them due to evidence.

A few years ago, my doctor and talked about cancer. I told him, "If I get it, I'm not going to treat it. I can't afford that, so I'll just ask for pain management." He nodded, understanding totally. That's what our choice is in America: choose to die or go bankrupt and lose everything.

Corporations/business rule in this country. Trump gave them power over us by cutting their taxes via his "pay for play" setup. Look how Taylor Farms got away with parasitic lettuce by giving Trump $1M. The citizens no longer any say in how things are run. He's already set up the midterms steal.

This is beyond immoral and unethical. It’s inhuman. We need to look deeply into how our society produces so many severely inhuman people. How do you do this to your peers and hold your head up every day? Sociopathy is our true GDP. Everything follows from that.

And pharmabro was the bad guy Not saying he wasn't, he is, he was just mirroring how big pharma has been extorting the people all along.
