ICE has awarded $28 million to Teya Diversified Solutions to serve as caretakers for “mothballed” warehouses. Teya is yet another Alaskan Native-owned company contracted by ICE to support its detention facilities. The award was issued on a sole-source, noncompeted basis.

Off topic, but... What is with every contract being sole sourced now? Back in the ancient days when I was doing government work for NASA and others you had to give up your first born to get the gov't to even consider sole sourcing a contract. Now they just hand them out to their friends willy nilly.

If these facilities are actually mothballed, then it seems fine that Indigenous groups get some government money. But what happens if they ever get UNmothballed? At one time the infamous Tacoma ICE facility was supposed to be shut down...

Mostly calling out the ANC 8(a) designation since it seems to be one of the top ways ICE awards sole sources for detention and detention-adjacent contracts. See also: Akima, Paragon Professional Services, etc.
