Are there any humans awake that I can talk to right now about <my technical thing or stupid idea>? -> no. .. Will the AI listen to me talk about <my technical thing or stupid idea> right now -> yes. And here in we have an issue...

I think the issue is not the immediate availability of a human at any hour of the day ... but the attention span of the person with a technical thing or stupid idea who will simply forget it if they can't talk to a robot within 30 seconds.

I spent 24 years searching for people to talk to about tech stuff, I met some great people around the world, but never ended up with contacts to anyone who would answer in less than 48 hours. thats not a conversation, thats a flipping message board. zzzz

Imagine being so self-obsessed that you feel you are entitled to an expert (who has presumably dedicated their life to the subject you want but haven’t studied yourself) according to your time frame and not even acknowledging their schedule! And so thick that you’d settle for a flawed robot instead

I wish we would stop saying AI and just say Algorithms instead. AI is a friend, like Lt. Cmdr. Data, or WALL-E. Until ChatGPT can ponder the meaning of life and love and its place in the universe, it's just a bunch of algorithms.

Wow, it's almost like the people marketing LLMs as AI are deliberately fostering that confusion in an attempt to conflate their incompetent search engines with actually useful technologies. Good thing there's no moral responsibility on them to not lie, caveat emptor and all.

My response to the articles about how "ai" can choose your wardrobe, plan your dinner, read to your kids, write thank you notes to your grandma, etc etc....how did we ever survive before?? (Followed by, are grown assed adults too stupid to do those things with their own brains?)

I might even call it dangerous to use in IT, if you just blindly trust it. Used in the right context it can be helpful. Same with anything you find on the internet, verify and test, but it does make it convenient to research underlying questions about technology and summarize topics from long docs.

If you have natural intelligence, then you don't need the artificial kind. And if you don't have natural intelligence, you're incapable of using the artificial kind responsibly.

If you listen to the AI bros it feels like no problem is solvable without AI. I'm actually pretty sure the only thing that requires a LLM the size of OpenAI and Co is a general chat bot. But why think for yourself If you can get a sometimes barely working solution by paying Sam Altman?
