I appreciate that a lot of people who haven't spent a long time up close in politics "can't see them coming" This guy - like MCM, Latham, Frydenberg etc - you could see coming from a mile away. Threatening Australia's Ukraine community by weilding his little political peenie is just horseshit

Cmon, not being able to take advantage of a the general movement away from major parties doesn’t just happen by itself…you need to constantly work at it.

I’ve been impressed with what I’ve read by and about David Shoebridge but this appals me. This is absolutely no time to be a Neville Chamberlain.

I like how you ALP types pretend that the government is doing anything bar the bare minimum, and there's no difference between what was said and the current state of Ukraine aid. You're all interventionist when there's literally nothing at stake for you

I'm not an ALP type - and people get this wrong a lot. I've never been a member of the ALP and have never worked for them. I'm a fully functioning adult public policy type that doesn't give a shit about political party personalities. Interventionism when you have nothing at stake is called ethics

So the anti war party - pointing out they're anti war profiteeing is worth pointing the finger at when they propose sending the same amount of weapons to Ukraine that the ALP government has so far? And the usual suspects bitch that Australia is personally holding up Zelensky?

Imagine warning people who have lived through Ukrainian history in the past 100 years not to make an enemy of... the Australian Greens.

It's a real prick thing to say. This whole experience has shown that he hasn't actually engaged with the subject of the Ukraine War beyond a surface level, or he would know how thankful Ukraine has been for our military aid. It's a damning mark on a man seeking to "replace Labor".

Hang on - we didn't want to give them Tigers, we wanted to bury them, which we did. I've seen this angle you're referring to - you need to give thought to your media consumption. It is telling you things that aren't real, to make you angry, so you'll come back.

Not to mention Zelenskyy singled out the Bushmasters for praise when we gave them to Ukraine and the M1A1 Abrams Tanks we gave to Ukraine have been heavily modified to work on their battlefields.

It's unclear to me what concrete form of actual support the Greens are providing to Ukraine, that criticism puts at risk. Also, the idea that support for Ukraine is dependent on the Ukrainian community in Australia being sufficiently grateful to the Greens seems pretty wild.

It's literally the same as it is now, except the anti war party doesn't want to profit from weapons sales whilst the ALP has nothing to sell to Ukraine other than giving away the bushmasters and old M1A1s

Think through what you're saying. Donating military assets doesn't actually profit the military industrial complex anymore than selling your Kia profits Kia. But! Giving money to Ukraine, which they then use to buy those same weapons with, does profit those corps. Military aid kills profits.

...and there's no diff to that between Greens and ALP and Coalition, all would donate humanitarian "aid". See like, I'd be happy to build and give away bushmasters of they're useful, and the wording of this from Shoebridge was shit, but we're not helping Ukraine much now, let alone a future Green PM

And before you go "but it's fungible - one in, one out" We buy them cheaper than they do. And we also get benefits out of field testing. They teach us how they work in practice. We take that info on in further designs.

Australia has been donating munitions, which Ukraine is desperate for Starving a state that has been invaded of equipment is not an anti-war position. The Greens say transfers would be ok with a UN mandate ukraine has appreciated the bushmasters, Abrams, like other tanks have been less useful
