I have a suggestion to reduce pornbots! Block temporary/disposable email addresses from registering accounts (if that is indeed what they are using) There are many services that offer an API to check them, but here is a free list github.com/disposable-e... Then add a CAPTCHA like Cloudflares

@surfdude29.ispost.ing could you forward this to the right people? There are many anti-spam services out there, but since ATProto is new & unique it will have to be built from scratch. But, the days of allowing anyone to register from any IP/email addresses will have to come to an end

I'm pretty sure that's already the case! I was recently digging around in the code for the official PDS implementation, and burner email addresses *are* indeed blocked at signup using a library (maybe even this particular one).

Here's a link to the relevant line of code, burner emails are checked for at signup. Another good reason for it is that email is used in several other places as e.g. a form of account recovery. Unfortunately, the bot deluge will need a lot more work to be dealt with fully.
