HOW IT WORKS IN MOVIES: 1. Government lies 2. Brave heroes release video showing the truth 3. Press says “the government is lying!” HOW IT APPARENTLY WORKS IN REAL LIFE 1. Brave heroes release video showing the truth 2. Government lies 3. Press says “Oh no, what now? So confusing! So hard!”

my emerging theory is that the political press literally does not believe in objective reality in any meaningful sense. there is only what A says and what B says and how that affects the horse race

But they don't even do that in sports broadcasts! It's 2 minutes of the game and 58 minutes of "analysis" which is mostly just bad opinions shared loudly. And the rest of media somehow decided this was a good model to copy

No, they believe in it. They just don’t broadcast it when the objective reality is something Republicans need to adhere to. “Do not make Republicans mad” is how every news organization operates. In practice, that means “gently trying to hold them accountable by blaming both sides.”

Yes, the idea that thoughts can affect reality is rampant, ie, bend spoons, change outcomes of sports events or elections. Feelings are not facts but you would hardly know if you ask the man on the street.

Magical thinking, superstition, literal bronze-age mythologies, motivated reasoning, authority bias, moral licensing, thought terminating cliches, etc etc etc Future people will look back at us and see the obvious source of many of our problems.

If A says it’s raining and B says it’s sunny, the job of a *real* journalist is not to report what each of them said, but to LOOK OUT THE DAMNED WINDOW. This begins with the Reagan administration ending the fairness doctrine, and was moved forward by Karl Rove’s post-truth approach to politics.

The green room literally breaks your brain: “well the crypto fascists I argue with every week for money are actually very nice, ergo I understand the other side”

When asked for comment Ezra Klein responded “we have to understand where the fascist supporters are coming from. We may not feel they are right but their feelings are important too Maybe fascists are doing politics the right way and we need to acknowledge that”

Seems to be true. Subjective/Objective is also a major component of the political axis. This leads to the apparent (relatively new) conservative bias of the press. They share the understanding that "truth" is composed of what people believe or say.
