For the first time, the Closing the Gap dashboard includes community-governed data from the Mayi Kuwayu Study. The Mayi Kuwayu Study is the largest national longitudinal study of the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults (aged 16 years and over) in Australia.

Founded on extensive community engagement and conducted in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations, Mayi Kuwayu Study data indicates that racism is a common problem for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.

Nationally between 2019–2021, just under half (45.0%) of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 16 years or over had experienced racial discrimination in everyday life.
