Curious about the tackification of the Oval Office, I skimmed the official White House photo feed. As it turns out, the gold elements in the room were added slowly, not all at once. Photos in my (free to read) newsletter. s2.washingtonpost.com/camp-rw/?tra...

With the gilding of the White House, Trump’s 2 doll comment, and Lutnick telling seniors to suck it up if their check doesn’t arrive, how are we not talking about Marie Antoinette and Versailles? Forget his AI images as Pope, where’s the one of him as Marie Antoinette?

Truly disgusting and extremely disrespectful. A palace would be decorated like that, not a democratic seat of government. He did announce from day one what his intentions were - I hope from hour one his democratic replacement tears this crap out of there.

Just thinking about how much flak Nancy Reagan got for redecorating the White House and spending so much money she had to sing “Secondhand Rose” at a charity even to smooth feathers lol lmao remember when republicans CARED about such things and had some ethics or even lines that could be crossed

It took time for Trump to determine which shiny but tarnished objects offered a true “window to his soul.” That’s roughly the same process he used to assemble his corrupt, incompetent “Ship of Fools” administration.

Yeah — thanks to Matt highlighting it and the WH Flickr feed, I would add!

A lot of people were wondering what Trump has changed in the decor of the Oval Office. Philip has pulled out photos to demonstrate the transition:

Noticed a bunch of these ornate gold medallions slapped all over the Oval Office. We found em on Alibaba. “High-density Home Decoration Polyurethane Appliques Ornament PU Foam Veneer Accessories” from seller Guangzhou Homemax Decorative Material Limited. sherwood.news/power/shop-t...

I have a very small reach here on bluesky, so when I posted about this 2 months ago no one noticed. I am lucky enough to have been on a WH tour, and I knew this was all him and his ideas about what wealth & power should look like. I hope someday we can get back to the elegance of previous eras.

A vulgarian gotta do what a vulgarian does. See also Putin's Kremlin. There are common threads of narcissistic vulgarity with many dictators. I'm waiting for the generalissimo uniforms & goose stepping Praetorian Guards.

I am so horrified by the gold changes that I now can’t stand seeing anything gold (no gold faucets or cabinet pulls) on a flipping/renovation show. I just think of him and the “tackification” of the Oval Office, as you put it.

Many parts of the Kremlin (like the Armoury) are gorgeous, authentic, and artistic -- architecture, gold and diamonds from the bygone era of the czars. Think Faberge eggs. Trump is the cheap imitation.

The President said of the U.S. economy: "We are a department store, and we set the price. I meet with the companies, and then I set a fair price, what I consider to be a fair price, and they can pay it, or they don't have to pay it." And then... I lost it.

The gold curtains are holdovers from the 1st Trump term. Biden didn’t take them down. And Trump left them up for the 2nd term. I believe they are the curtains originally made for Clinton.

My assumption has been that every time Frump waddles off for a round of golf, they glue up more faux-gold frippery and every time he comes back he whines that it looks like a poor person's office and needs more gold.
