It is still quite low if you compare it to the number of female PhD students. Career opportunities in science in Germany are unfortunately still far away from equal (written as a research group leader at Helmholtz, where the numbers are similar or even a bit worse). #IchbinHanna #Vereinbarkeit

There is a lot of inertia in the system because of the cohort effect: the older the director, the more likely it’s a man. The MPG has been hiring women but the positions tend to only become vacant when a director (typically a man) retires. Once in a director position, people tend to stay.
