That was the gimmick that won him the election, that he would stand up against Trump. If he doesn't enforce the tax, I think his popularity will drop sharply.

Agree. If Carney gives in to Trump he can forget getting re-elected. Which is really bad for everyone, since the alternative is dingbat Conservatives who'll just give in more.

UPDATE: he folded

The major tech companies that will be paying the tax do not pay their fair share in Canada. The United States could have avoided it by agreeing to the OECD’s global minimum tax; instead Biden and Trump sabotaged it. Digital services taxes are the natural response.
