Cannot wait to be excluded from places because 1. I would rather not share my ID with a US company that *totally* is gonna follow GDPR and *totally* will not share my data with third parties 2. I would rather not exclude people that cannot or do not want to get verified Yippieeee

There is a LOT of confusion over this and concerns over privacy and effectiveness, so I spent a few hours doing research and analyzing Persona and what everyone has been saying about Age Verification on bsky, Twitter, YouTube, and Reddit. This'll be a thread going over my findings. [[ 1 / 27 ]]

Yeah I saw, it does help with privacy concerns but not really with my exclusion issues. I am simply afraid that most people will switch to verified instances, blocking some people out.

I dont really see the perogative to a majority of users going full force into verifying every server, especially with the sizeable amount of underage quest players and such. I could not fathom Black Cat seeing predominantly 18+ instances.

Agreed was planning to verify when I was under the understanding it was a EU company. Now that I know its a American company I don't know if I will verify anymore. Issue isn't really with the company but with where they reside. Will they still follow GDPR over the next 4 years is my question.

Meh I don't see this as a big problem, this kind of service is the same that an online bank or other financial platform might use, but on those you usually have to get on a video call with a rep instead of just uploading a picture of your ID.

That has to have been quite some time ago then. Pretty sure KYC requirements for financial services have included the video portion for several years at this point.

Sure, but a picture of an ID is a lot more problematic than just some data. Exclusion for me is also a big part of it, I genuinely do not understand what problem this is trying to solve.

Didn't a certain member of a community you're active in get cancelled out of existence because they ERP'd with a minor? Age verification should prevent those cases.

Not familiar with the details of that whole situation. Anyone on the internet who wants to engage in such acts will find a way to cheat the system. Also should not anyone who participates in such acts be responsible for making sure all involved are of age?

Dunno the situation exactly but wasn't the whole problem that she was aware of their age? Regardless, I'm afraid that many spaces I met very cool people in (who just happen to be <18, something they can't control) will now be 18+ only because they can be :/

Underage people inflitrating NSFW spaces and groups. That's mostly it. I feel you on the exclusion of people that may not want to share their data, I'm actually questionning if I'll do it myself.. Might verify with linkedin. But in principles exclusion of children has 100% my support.
