🧵 Carney and Zelenskyy discussed the new agreement between US and Russia to supply diesel to US. PM Carney was clear: this agreement is in direct opposition to the efforts of Ukraine, Canada, and our allies to create peace and stability in Europe.

Canada has imposed over 3,500 sanctions in response to Russia’s violations of Ukraine’s sovereignty. During their conversation, PM Carney assured that Canada will maintain and, where effective, tighten sanctions to support efforts to secure a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.

PM underscored Canada’s unwavering support for Ukraine – for its sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. Since Russia’s unprovoked and unjustifiable full-scale invasion began, Canada has committed over $8.5B in military support and over $750M for Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction.

I can imagine Carney's security is really beefed up in light of the threat of assassination against the Polish PM. #CISI #Cdnpoli #EU

3,500 is real weight. The gap is enforcement. Announced sanctions and actually closed loopholes are different animals, and Moscow prices in the gap. Carney naming the diesel deal as opposition is what matters.
