We did it, we found a proposal for where to put solar panels that makes less sense than “on a railway track”

Don't know why they don't put them over graves. Particularly in old churches and cemeteries where the graves are over 100 years old. I'd be quite happy for my committal service to be, "dust to dust, ashes to ashes, sunlight to renewable power".

I'm not talking about single panels covering individual graves but the sort of canopy that they put over car parks. It could feed into a community's local grid or support the church financially. This picture is about 1/20th of my local cemetery. Ripe for solar...

Seems ripe for a few more trees and benches to me. We have plenty of low value agricultural land we could use instead more practically and with much less controversy 🤷 I’m extremely anti the “solar is ugly” crowd but even I would be sad if my local cemetery suddenly had a steel canopy..

I understand that point of view, cemeteries seem to have a few tree lined paths but then large expanses of grave plots. Maybe there was always an issue digging fresh graves if too many tree roots in the past. Also issues with falling headstones that could be exacerbated by more roots today.

Most of those graves, at least in the cemetery I am looking at, are upwards of 150 years old now. I don't think burials are common at all nowadays and I'd rather that any monies from solar being sold back to the grid went towards the upkeep of old headstones rather than the council simply laying

them flat. It's not a proposal I'd given a great deal of thought to though. Quite a throwaway line really, but I think in some circumstances it could be contemplated and even be successful. Not everywhere and not for everyone. 🙂
