We all have an Appointment in Samarra, some sooner than others. Nearing the end & suffering from brain cancer Senator John McCain managed to get to the Senate floor, Mitch McConnell is no John McCain. Term limits. Age limits. No lifetime jobs. Enforceable ethics codes.

I hate that we still reach for simple, arbitrary solutions (a someone random metric number) rather than outcome-based solutions (ie. regular, objective, empathy and cognition fitness testing). But I get we're PRETENDING to do testing now and it's not working out so sure, age cap. #BetterDems

28th Amendment. No person shall be elected to office or be appointed to be an officer or judge of the United States after reaching 78 years of age. No person shall serve in office or as an officer or judge of the United States after reaching 80 years of age.

No one should get a lifetime appointment in any job. It's ridiculous. You can't fire them and they know they can stay forever, that's not democracy especially when it involves seven people that determine the direction of our lives possibly a lifetime. Change the SCOTUS term to 8 or 10 years max.

Nope. You wouldn't limit the ability to hold elective office by race or sex or any other immutable characteristics. Also, "too old" changes over time. If they came up with age limits in 1946, we'd consider those ridiculous today. It's up to the voters to pick better candidates.

People are fucking stupid and also can’t imagine a world in which dark money doesn’t rule elections. Your issue isn’t incumbents OR old people it’s that those incumbents and old people’s opinions are bought and paid for by Big Tech and Big Pharma and Big Oil

Age discrimination being popular does not make it ethical. Age discrimination and fat shaming remain among the last socially acceptable types of bigotry. Fortunately, the 1967 Age Discrimination in Employment Act remains in effect. If voters want to discriminate in the voting booth, they can.

I’m opposed to caps based solely on a person’s ‘age’. If they are older and still capable of performing their duties based on the needs of their constituents, age shouldn’t be a factor. Ageism is a dangerous slippery slope.

RBG was born in 1933-2020 r.i.p. there is always an exception to the rules, however, I would support age limits as well as term limits for Congress and judges. I worry that our aging can increase our natural negative bias. People can still work but maybe not at making laws.

Yes! Congress (some of those people look like they have just emerged from the crypt), but also SCOTUS. And maybe, the way things are going currently, an age cap for the president.

Btw- the “good behavior” clause in Art III, Sec 1 of the U.S. Const states that fed judges/justices cannot be removed if they are in “good behavior” Age minimums, maximums and terms are not removal, they are boundaries that apply to all This is true in the UK, where this clause originated
